Hi All,
I feel the discussion here has been sidetracked by personality clashes and
far reaching ideas.
Let me remind you that the purpose of the gem-list is to document and
establish the way GEM applications behave. Not to change everything. Point
to focus is out of the question, so is popping a menu on background
windows. Why? Because no application implements these, and even if one or
two do, this is not a standard behaviour.
The gem-list should provide a style guide that is fairly easy to follow.
Otherwise it will not be supported. You can argue the benefits of
point-to-focus as much as you like. The fact remains that very few apps
will support this idea and as a result, any other recommendations we make
will be disregarded.
Next item for discussion is the app-defs file, which was andre@cix idea. I
therefore asked him to manage the discussion, by trying to put forward a
proposal that incorporates some of the ideas put forward here. Once he
done that we will be able to discuss the various points and take a vote.
The key point to remember is that any ideas we put forward should be so
adreeable and easy to implement that everyone else will accept and follow.
If however, people continue to put forward radical ideas that are unlikely
to be supported by developers outside the gem-list, I see little point of
continuing the discussion.
This message is aimed at everyone here, but especially at Ken and Dan
Hollis who, for some reason, want everyone to drop everything they've done
so far, and conform to their idea of a GEM GUI. No Thanks.
Bye,
